Moscone Convention Center Expansion

Role: Lead designer at Skidmore, Ownings and Merrill
Phase: Concept to Construction Documentation
Client:
Moscone

The Moscone Expansion project is an extraordinary effort by the City, the San Francisco Tourism Improvement District Management Corporation, and the hotel industry to expand its convention center space. While it was one of the most successful convention centers in the United States, Moscone Center was operating at capacity and losing business to competing markets with more space. This project added more contiguous exhibition space to Moscone Center, allowing it to remain competitive on a national scale. The expansion added over 305,000 square feet of functional area, including new exhibition space, meeting room, pre-function space, ballroom space, and support areas.
