A Fusion of Coastal Views and Sustainable Excellence

When entrusted with the creation of a guest house, KWONBAE Architects sought to maintain captivating ocean views while using efficient spatial planning and sustainable principles. With meticulous attention to detail, they crafted a guest house that not only embraced its surroundings but also employed innovative strategies to increase energy efficiency and resilience.

The orientation of the building was dictated by the awe-inspiring ocean views. We positioned the guest house to optimize the visual experience, ensuring that every occupant would be treated to the vistas. This consideration of the site's natural beauty became a guiding principle in shaping the design.

To maximize the building footprint, we developed typical bedroom modules that utilized the available space efficiently without compromising on comfort or functionality. This approach allowed for integration of private spaces while maintaining a harmonious overall layout.

Energy modeling and optimization played a pivotal role in KWONBAE's design process. By thoroughly investigating thermal loads and energy use, they employed passive ventilation techniques to reduce the need for mechanical cooling and heating. This not only increased energy efficiency but also created a comfortable and sustainable living environment for the guests.

In contextualizing the neighboring Sea Ranch architectural language, we paid homage to the region's distinctive style while infusing a modern aesthetic. They selected resilient materials that could withstand the coastal environment, ensuring the longevity and durability of the guest house while seamlessly blending with the surrounding landscape.
